The strategic galaxy map at turn 14: 84 systems, six empires
TURN 14 · 84 SYSTEMS · SIX EMPIRES The galaxy at a glance: your empire, five rivals, orders, research and every battle report from the last turn. Live game state, nothing staged.

Most 4X games settle combat with a dice roll and a summary screen. HexTyrant makes the ships you designed fight the battles you command, and the choices you made three turns ago are visibly the reason you win or lose.

THE LOOP

The ship designer workstation

DESIGN

There are no preset ship classes. Every hull is a capacity budget you spend on engines, shields, lasers and missiles, and speed literally costs hull space. Place each component in the internal grid yourself, because where it sits is where it can be hit.

Plotting a fleet jump on the strategic map

CONQUER

Everyone plots in secret at the same time. Orders lock, fleets jump at once, and every system you hold pays out its size in production. You start with one home system out of eighty-four. Everything else has to be taken.

Point defense decision, four missiles inbound

COMMAND

When fleets meet, fight it yourself on the tactical hex grid: move, fire, redirect missiles already in flight, or spend weapon groups on point defense against an incoming volley, one decision at a time. Or hand it to a bot. Or run.

DAMAGE IS PHYSICAL

No hit-point bar. Every ship has an internal grid where its components actually sit, and incoming fire destroys specific cells. Knock out one cell of a four-cell laser and that laser is dead. Lose engine cells and the ship slows, proportionally. Breach a whole column and the ship explodes and splashes damage into everything nearby.

Shield pips drained · internal cells knocked out · a disabled weapon still on the list.

Component-level battle damage view

BUILT DIFFERENT

No servers. No subscription.

One player hosts; everyone else joins directly over Steam. Nothing to run, nothing to pay monthly, no service to shut down later. One-time purchase.

Solo, friends, or both

2–6 players in any mix of humans and Easy / Medium / Hard AI. Public or password lobbies; Steam friend invites skip the password.

Hidden information by design

Opponents never see your designs, production, or tech. Enemy fleets report only aggregate strength. Missiles fly anonymous until impact.

Twelve tech tracks

Hull, laser size / range / targeting / damage, missile size / drive / reload / damage, shields, regeneration, engines. Research in parallel, and keep it secret.

Genuinely moddable

Every combat stat, tech table and map is data, editable in the in-game Game System Editor. Hosts send custom rules to guests automatically, hash-verified.

Drop back in

If a game drops, the host relaunches it and everyone rejoins their exact seat, mid-battle included. Surrender and bot takeover keep the game alive if someone leaves.

ONE GALAXY. ONE THRONE.
